Todd Johnson

Todd, a native of Olathe, Kansas, discovered his passion for music at the age of 16 when he began teaching himself to play the guitar and write songs. In pursuit of his dreams, he enrolled at Full Sail School for the Recording Arts in Orlando, Florida in 1996. It was during this time that he started performing solo acoustic shows at various venues in the city. Despite being relatively unknown and underage, Todd quickly became a favorite among the owners of small bars in the Orlando and Winter Park area.

While studying at Full Sail, Todd devoted his spare time to honing his musical skills and developing his songwriting abilities. He resourcefully pieced together cassette decks and inexpensive microphones to record and create demo tapes. Just before completing his studies in 1997, Todd and a few of his classmates, including future drummer Tom Barletta, took advantage of the opportunity to use the free recording time provided by Full Sail to record their single, "Better To Be."

After graduating, Todd returned to his home state of Kansas, specifically choosing to settle in Lawrence to immerse himself in the thriving music scene and be close to his friends who were still attending the University of Kansas. Within six months of his arrival, Tom Barletta left Orlando and joined Todd in Lawrence with the shared goal of forming a band.

During the following decade, Todd gradually established his own recording studio, Dick Jack Ed, with the aim of bringing as much of the recording process in-house as possible.

In 2017, Todd and his wife made the decision to leave the city and relocate to a property outside of Perry, Kansas. Todd took on the task of renovating a building on the property to create the new Dick Jack Ed studio, which served as both a practice space and recording studio for Trucker.

Following the birth of his youngest son, Todd took a break from his various pursuits to focus on raising his three children. During this hiatus, he dedicated his spare time to working on what would eventually become his album, "HERD," which was released in 2022. In 2023, he launched "From The Kaw" to showcase his collection of fossils, artwork, and relics that he had either created or discovered over the course of decades of exploration. In 2024 he started the "What Worked For Me" section of this website to help others who want to improve their health.

Throughout his career, Todd has been involved in a wide range of projects spanning television, film, web, art, and music. With his diverse skill set encompassing entertainment, computers, and management, he has been fortunate to participate in numerous extraordinary ventures, resulting in many cherished experiences and friendships.

Trucker

Trucker was formed in Orlando, Florida in 1996 by Todd Johnson and Thomas Barletta. In 1997 they relocated to Lawrence, KS and were joined by bass player Wayne Rasmuss. The band spent the next 4 years playing steadily throughout the Midwest. There first release, Go Out, received nationwide radio play and resulted in Trucker appearing on USA Networks show Farm Club in 2000. Their follow-up record, Nothing To See Here, landed more airplay and put Trucker on the CMJ's and AMA's Top Unsigned Band lists in 2002 & 2003. The band played as a 3 piece until 2003 when Wayne departed the band.

In 2005 Trucker was joined by Greg Barry (bass), Josh Basnett (lead gtr) and long time manager Kevin Powell (keytar). The 5 piece began playing throughout the Midwest and received more national attention, including a Grammy pre-ballot inclusion in 2007 for the album Post Rock Motel.

In 2007, Hank Rischar (keys) joined the band and they began recording Hello Amero at their new Dick Jack Ed studio. The band followed up with 3 more studio albums that received international attention which led to beating 20k other acts worldwide and winning the Sennheiser HearIAm Campaign in 2010.

In 2012, after the recording of the album Al Fine, Thomas left Kansas to return to his home state of Connecticut and Trucker was put on a permanent hold.

Beta-Vox/Solo

After the disbandment of Trucker, the remaining members came together to form a new band called Beta-Vox. Joined by drummer Brian Langham (Bean), they spent three years primarily focused on recording and songwriting, with only a few live performances. Unfortunately, the band dissolved in 2012, just before completing their album "Build." However, Todd took the initiative to release the album as a solo project.

Following this, Todd dedicated the next six years to writing and recording his album "Herd," collaborating with various local artists such as Stanley Sheldon, Chris Wagner, Michael Paull, Kelley Hunt, Brett Henry, and even reuniting with former bandmates Tom, Josh, Greg, Bean, and Kevin for some tracks.

Currently, Todd is actively involved in the recording of new material and completing the archiving of previous work.
