Oh, the beer. Oh, the sweet, sweet beer. Playing in a band that practiced twice a week and performed on the weekends for free drinks, it is safe to say I have had my fair share. Of course, I never viewed it as a healthy activity, and quite frankly, I think the hangovers prevented me from developing any dependence on it. I am truly sorry for anyone who does. As the years go by, not only have I felt less of a desire to drink as often, but I’ve also noticed that the consequences the day after are much more noticeable. Here are a few things I’ve learned:

Switching from a cheap 30-pack of beer to something with a slightly higher alcohol percentage significantly reduced the number of beers I consumed, along with the caloric intake. Less junk in, less to process through the night, less to deal with the next day—unless you’re at the lake. Then, do whatever; it’s the lake.

Don’t switch horses midstream. I don’t care what anyone says; different alcohols do different things to a person, and for me, mixing them really amplifies the negative effects the next day.

Don’t drink IPAs or high-hop beers! These are estrogen bombs. Once you’ve seen a grown man gradually develop natural breasts, you’ll quickly become a believer.

Drink plenty of water, and at the end of the night, eat something non-greasy.Taking Apple Pectin, B-Vitamins, a pinch of mineral salts and NAC can also help.
